The throngs of doctors protesting high medical malpractice insurance premiums have brought attention to their plight and, as a result, the contention of many doctors that huge jury awards in medical malpractice cases are the cause of these lofty premiums. This is simply one of the factors that has fueled a growing movement in state legislatures and in Congress to cap jury awards or otherwise reform the tort system.
