Ah, the summer months will be here before we know it. As a business owner, the seasons may seem to blend together, especially when you are sitting in an office all day taking calls and blogging for the company website. While it may be tempting to “forget” about blogging and hit the beach, that is not going to benefit your marketing strategy. The less time you put into blogging, the less interested the search engines will be in your content.

In order to keep up with blogging this summer and keep that strategy going strong, you must learn to work with the season. Yes, it IS possible to blog for your business while still enjoying the nice weather!

To keep your head in the game, we have put together a quick list of tips. Here are seven ways to kick-start your blogging strategy this summer:

#1: Plan out your blogs ahead of time. You know how it goes… you sit down to write a blog and nothing comes to you. This season, try planning out your topics in advance. An editorial calendar is a great way to keep track of topics you plan to write about and when you will be posting. Having a topic in front of you is much more motivating and easier to tackle than having to spend ten minutes thinking and searching the web. Aim to plan out the calendar on the first of every month.

#2: Use lists to make your points versus paragraph form. Your audience will not only be happier reading a list, but writing it will be much quicker. Having bullet points and quick tips are easy for readers to scan and easy for you to type out. It’s a win/win!

#3: Aim for two blogs a week. If you have been blogging every day, it’s okay to cut back a little in the summer. Putting up two blogs on a weekly basis is ideal and much easier to tackle when you are looking forward to spending time in the sun. If you continue to think you need to post five blogs a week, you may feel discouraged and are more likely to get off-track.

#4: Write for the season. Each season brings a different set of blog topics. Find out what is going on in your community and pay attention to holidays. Seasonal topics are refreshing and will keep you interested in what you are writing about.

#5: Embrace pop culture. Have you been watching Entertainment Tonight? A lot happens in the world of pop culture. Who knows, you may even be able to compare one of your products and services to Lady Gaga. Trust us; it’s possible and it will definitely be a hit!

#6: Get inspired by blogging outdoors. Do you need a change of scenery? No one says you have to blog indoors. Take your laptop outside with you and get inspired by nature. You will be getting your work done and enjoying the nice weather.

#7: Share your blogs with the web! Once you have posted a blog, don’t let it just sit there on your website. Spread the link! Post a link to the blog post on the company Facebook and Twitter. You can even bookmark it on sites such as StumbleUpon and Digg. This way, your blog has a greater chance of being read and shared.

Whether you are blogging about a common policy like homeowners insurance or a unique policy like trucking insurance, there are always ways to make such a bland topic come to life; these tips prove that it can be done! So what are you waiting for? Give it a try!
