Agent to Agent: How Blogs Improve Your Website and Agency Overall

By John Mulcahy, President

One of the biggest priorities for insurance agencies is the ability to connect with customers on a level that they can easily understand and accept. Because insurance can seem dull, agents and agencies need to do everything they can to make the topic more animated. As the Web 2.0 frenzy continues its sweep across the Internet, insurance agencies everywhere are adapting new methods via the Internet to change the way customers are reached and kept. One of the methods agencies have accepted is implementing blogs on their websites, allowing the ability to use every day, real-world elements to help customers relate to different type of insurance policies. As an insurance agency, adding a blog to your website can help initially bring customers to your website while also keeping them coming back for more. Here are ways in which your company blog can improve your website and company’s mission:

  • A blog can help customers relate to your agency more fluidly: An average consumer is generally turned off by the thought of buying insurance. A blog brings a unique and supplemental element to your website that it would be hard to include without. Blog posts can create situations commonly experienced with whatever type of insurance you are selling, so while customers may read a summary of Pennsylvania auto insurance, they may find it hard to think why committing to your agency would be beneficial. On the other hand, being able to read a post about Pennsylvania auto insurance that is more down to earth and applicable to their own lives, will potentially lead your customer to trust your agency more.
  • Blogs can increase traffic to your website: When properly posted and optimized, a blog can help increase a level of traffic to your site that it would normally not experience. By utilizing keywords related to your agency, your website has a better opportunity to show up on search results in search engines such as Google and Yahoo. According to a study done in 2009, small businesses that blog receive an average of 55% more website visitors.
  • Blogs are the foundation of spreading awareness via social media: If your agency is looking to make an initial splash with social media, creating a blog should be step number one. With a blog, not only are you adding content to your website, but you are also giving your company something to post and further promote on Facebook and Twitter to your friends and followers. Blogs provide users with the chance to give real-time feedback for each post, which can help your company see what may or may not be working out.

If your agency has yet to create a blog, it really is in your best interest to get involved and get writing immediately. It’s a free and easy way to create traffic to your site while building awareness for your products. In reality, there is no reason why you shouldn’t have a blog on your agency website. The time is now to start embracing the new age of Internet marketing. Start blogging and start seeing results!
