Agent to Agent: Using Social Media to Motivate Employees

In the insurance industry, we are constantly encouraged to engage with prospects and current customers through social media. People are trusting of social media because it allows them to share information and use their social networks to garner opinions. As a business owner, have you ever thought about using that strategy – for the same reasons – to motivate your employees and increase a sense of accountability through your agency?

If your agency is already on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, then you have access to a large amount of people. Your employees have access to people as well. Wouldn’t it be great if you could share all of their great accomplishments with both sets of networks?

You can!

Here are a few of our ideas:

  • When it comes to Facebook and Twitter, you can utilize personal shout outs. It can be as simple as posting a line or two about something great one of your agents did during the day. Or you can go bigger and use images and video! Social networks such as Instagram and Vine allow you to do so and using hashtags can let you reach more people, too.
  • Encourage healthy competition among your employees. Are two employees really killing it this quarter? Share it in ONE post and you may be surprised to see their reaction.
  • Use Twitter to post live updates on the progress of big projects and the employees who have a hand in them. Working on a new information packet on life insurance? Share some of the tips as they are found by your agents. This will help with your agency’s strategy AND encourage your employees to get involved with the project.


Showing your employees that you appreciate what they do is a great way to boost employee morale. This is also a great way to reach an increased social network.

Think about it: You can fulfill TWO marketing goals with this type of thing:

  1. Engaging employees and increasing morale
  2. Increasing visibility among employees’ social groups – this could mean leads!


Your agency – and your agents- are the best of the best. Isn't it time you let the world know?
