PIA Members Descend on Capitol Hill, Take Their Message to Congress
“We had some really good visits,” said PIA of Arkansas National Director Wayne White. “We had a very good meeting with Sen. John Boozman (R-AR). We also got to spend some time with some staff people, which was very productive. All the meetings went very well, they were timely and we got good response, they all seemed pretty much in line on our issues.”
“We had a great series of meetings,” said Gerald Hemphill, PIA National Director from Virginia. “We met with Sen. Mark Warner’s (D-VA) folks and also with Rep. Dave Brat (R-VA-7th), they were on board with our views on state regulation, on the agent’s role in the process and also with the need for tax reform for small business.”
“From an insurance standpoint, foremost on everyone’s mind is healthcare,” said Dwight Taylor, an agent from Cumming, Georgia. “No matter that they haven’t gotten it done, my message is get it done, and get it done right.”
“We got to meet with a number of legislators, such as Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-NY-14th) and Rep. Dan Donovan (R-NY-11th), said PIA of New York member Geno Orrino. “We talked about the need to renew the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), the importance of independent agent in the community, and agent commissions.”
