PIA Expresses Concern Over Proposed DOL Overtime Rule

September 15, 2015

In July, the Department of Labor (DOL) released a proposal to set the minimum salary threshold for exempt employees at $970 per week or $50,440 annually—an enormous 113 percent increase from the current requirement of $455 per week or $23,660 annually. Comments on the proposal were due on September 4. PIA submitted comments, including results of a member survey that voiced concern about the potential negative impact of the proposal on small businesses and suggested alternatives and amendments to the DOL's current proposal. PIA's comments can be found here.

PIA also submitted comments as part of the Partnership to Protect Workplace Opportunity (PPWO), which is composed of over 100 other organizations representing small businesses across the country, including the American Insurance Association (AIA) and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). The PPWO comments can be found here.
