November 6, 2018

Tuesday November 6 is midterm Election Day. Throughout the United States, there is balloting for many elected offices. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may vote for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, governor and statewide races, along with state legislators and a host of other local offices.

Elections are how free people govern themselves. Voting is a right, and it is also our civic responsibility. PIA encourages you to participate in the American system of self-government by casting your ballot. In the days and weeks after the election, PIA will report on how the election results may affect the issues of importance to professional, independent insurance agents with a new Congress in January 2019.

During the lame-duck session after the elections, Congress will be dealing with a number of issues. One is the need to extend the National Flood Insurance Program, which is set to expire November 30. PIA National has issued a national grassroots alert asking Congress to pass an extension of the NFIP beyond its current expiration date.
