Two top House appropriators are preparing an emergency aid package for the handful of southern states that suffered billions of dollars in crop damage from Hurricane Michael.

Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Ala.), who leads the House Appropriations subcommittee in charge of agriculture spending, is working with ranking member Sanford Bishop (D-Ga.) on a bill to offer quick relief for farmers during the upcoming lame-duck session of Congress. “It looks like a war zone in middle and southwest Georgia,” Bishop said, noting damage in the other states as well. “We have got to do something.”
